From start-up to award-winning producer of vegan food – Lotao shows how this impressive development can go hand in hand with a philosophy of sustainability and social responsibility. Since November 2021, the company is part of the Zertus Group and enriches the range in the market unit Healthy & Ethical. Founded in 2011, the company has its headquarters in Berlin Friedrichshain.

Lotao stands for vegan, sustainable and high-quality organic products and makes forgotten culinary treasures accessible to food lovers in Europe. The first stars in the range – colourful Asian rice varieties - were quickly joined by many other specialities such as coconut blossom and agave sugar as well as exotic snacks made from snake fruit or jackfruit.

Honest vegan products are close to Lotao's heart, purely plant-based and delicious. The company is always looking for the best quality – the most important prerequisite for taste and flavour. This is not the only reason why the exceptional products are appreciated and awarded by consumers and experts alike.

Sustainable

Sustainable action is a central pillar for Lotao – and through the Code of Conduct, the company also holds its partners accountable for this. Lotao pays attention to the entire supply chain of each product and takes its responsibility from cultivation to delivery. To ensure sustainability, Lotao takes environmental, social and economic aspects into account. This includes, for example, paying a fair price to the farmers and implementing projects to help them help themselves.

Environmentally sustainable

Lotao keeps a close eye on its ecological footprint: for example, climate neutrality was achieved for two jackfruit products in cooperation with ClimatePartner (CP). Almost 83 tonnes of CO2 are offset and reinvested in a project to promote solar energy and children.
